Heart to heart by an Egyptian abroad

My name is Sarah. I was born in Alexandria, Egypt and moved to Toronto at an early age. The revolution of January 25th, revealed a side of me I never knew existed and this page has been created to help the world hear the cries of the people of Egypt, My people!

Ramy Essam - UA07 live From Tahrir Square رامى عصام - حرية (by RamyEssam1)

RISE UP!

We’ve lived in fear for so long

We forgot the meaning of courage

Kept silence for so long

‘Till our own voices

Sounded foreign

We kept our heads between our knees

Losing sight of the skies above

Taught our children not to dream

And accept misery as a way of life

We denied ourselves the right to freedom

Convinced it wasn’t for us

We erased our values so we wouldn’t seek them

We bowed down before the fight

And rather than trust our reason

We mastered the art

Of giving up!

And to justify this way of life

We called on god’s might

To help us content …

With what was less than right

Then one bright day

a voice called

 “ Rise up”

One of us

dared to believe

that better is within reach

RISE UP

One of us didn’t give up!

Let our story not be about glory

But about finding the will

And power

To listen to our own voices

And speak up!

Dedicated to the people of the Middle East and beyond.

Completely and utterly inspired by you,

Egyptian abroad.
